The Reading Program

In recent years, the science of reading has exploded with new discoveries, and we now know many of the keys to helping students learn to read efficiently and effectively. The Voyager program was designed to help students develop:

  • Alphabetic Skills

  • Phonemic and Phonological Awareness

  • Letter Recognition

  • Oral Language Skills

  • Visual Perceptual Skills and Oculomotor Skills

  • Handwriting

This is typically done through a series of thirty-minute lessons scheduled two or three times per week. Part of the program also involves “homework”, but not to worry! It should only take about five to ten minutes a day, and it’s intended to be a fun activity that parents can do with their kids.

Along the way, we will talk about metacognition (thinking about how we think), grit, organization, motivation styles, and more life skills that are helpful at any age.

Every month, we will have a short status conference to talk about progress, concerns, and questions.

It depends on a multitude of factors, but it is recommended that students attend tutoring for at least three months.
